Entry 06 - Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons

Rei Kawakubo

She was a Japanese fashion designer, founder of Comme des Garcons.

How great she is to influences the western society.
“Everyone is influenced by Comme des Garcons,” Marc Jacobs told Women’s Wear Daily
How did she influence people to change the perception on different way looking of women wears?
In 1997, she question out of the very shape of a woman bodies. It been know as the Bump collection, it deformed the silhoutte with Quasimodo-style padded lumps placed strangely and strategically on model's back, shoulder and hips.  This has actually influenced the Western perspective on body adornment and the meaning of cloth.

Besides that she had also changed the France fashion world by turning conservative thinking of dress could not be black (black was not a color to be worn during the day or to be used on dress during that time). In fact, she also created another version of cloths that used the traditional textile, making it into a more masculine, street cultural dress . This is to also to teaches what it mean to be a woman in a male dominated society.

Besides that, she had also turning the radical (things that is unfinished or asymmetry), this has appear during spring 2004, she did a  voluminous cut from the traditional fabrics, while itstead of wearing like a blouse, it wear up over the bare breast. Despite that, her influences to people are fueled by her consistence of provocation. She challenged the concept of  that fashion is meant to be beautiful or to be beautiful.
